The Rookie Class Internship Program

The Rookie Class is Backfield Media’s signature internship program built for the next generation of sports journalists, content creators, and opinion writers. Designed to run during the college and league football season, the program offers aspiring professionals real-world experience in athlete-first media.
Through weekly writing, on-camera features, and social coverage, interns learn how to cover sports with depth, accuracy, and personality — while developing a portfolio they can be proud of.
Led by Founder & Host Camille “Cami” Lee, this hands-on experience includes:
- Writing original stories and athlete-focused features
- Collaborating on coverage across football, basketball, and more
- Participating in editorial meetings, pitch sessions, and content reviews
- Gaining mentorship and feedback from media professionals
- Publishing bylines under the Backfield Media platform
We’re transparent with our interns: as a growing media company, we’re actively working to scale our coverage and expand monetization — not only to sustain our platform, but also to eventually create pathways for paid opportunities. While this program is currently unpaid, we do everything possible to make the experience rewarding, resume-worthy, and empowering.
Whether you're a lead intern or support writer, you're not just watching from the sidelines — you're learning by doing and helping shape the voice of athlete-first coverage.
This is your rookie season. Let’s make it count.
